Brief description of presentation at American Association for the Advancement of Science in Cleveland, Ohio re: oddities in C. gigantea called Cactus Pearls. It was believed that these are formed by response to an injury to the plant made by rodent, woodpecker or man. The wound in its healing surrounds the injury with a hard, impermeable woody tissue. (This brief description from 1931 may be referring to saguaro "boots")
