This document is the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for the Brookline Reservoir of the Cochituate Aqueduct in Brookline, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. The NHL nomination for the Brookline Reservoir documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 4. Constructed as part of Boston’s Cochituate Aqueduct, the property includes the most intact original component of the water system that served the City of Boston and became a national model for metropolitan water and sewer systems. The Principal Gatehouse on the property is nationally significant as an early surviving example of the use of iron in architecture and engineering. The period of national significance is 1846-1848.
