Stevenson II Farm documents its national significance under NHL Criteria 1 and 2. Diplomat and politician Adlai Stevenson is best known as the twice-nominated Democratic candidate for the presidency during the 1950s and as the Ambassador to the United Nations during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. In addition, between 1945 and 1947, he served in several important positions that influenced the establishment, organization, and operation of the United Nations, and in the 1950s, he led the Democratic Party as it transitioned from its New Deal focus of years past, to the point when the next generation took the reins in 1960. The periods of national significance are 1945-1947 and 1952-1962.
