This document is the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for the Biesterfeldt Site in the vicinity of Lisbon in Ransom County, North Dakota. The NHL nomination for the Biesterfeldt Site documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 6. Site of a Contact-period village, possibly Cheyenne, the Biesterfeldt site contains unique scientific information pertaining to the migration of native peoples on the Great Plains and to the transformation of sedentary farming cultures into horse-mounted nomads in the region in the mid-eighteenth century. The period of national significance begins ca. 1724 and ends ca. 1780 but no later than 1790.
