Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program custom spatial data production tools

Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program. 2025. Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program custom spatial data production tools. National Park Service (NPS) Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program

The Geologic Resource Inventory (GRI) Program Custom Production Tools are a suite of Python scripts and ESRI Add-Ins designed to streamline the creation of GRI-compliant spatial datasets for ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Earth (KMZ). These tools support the full data production pipeline, including the generation of FGDC-compliant metadata, ancillary documents, and the compilation of complete data packages for upload to the IRMA data store. ESRI Add-Ins The following standalone Add-Ins appear in the ArcGIS Pro Add-In ribbon once imported: • CreateBoxesPro – Generates a grid overlay to assist with data subdivision for quality control and feature capture. • ExportProLayers – Exports ArcGIS Pro maps to .mapx files and all associated layers to .lyrx files. • OrderProLayers – Reorders GRI layers in the ArcGIS Pro Table of Contents according to the GRI Geologic-GIS data model specification. • ProExportRGB – Creates a .csv file of RGB values for polygon layers symbolized with unique values in ArcGIS Pro. • Spellchecker – Uses the Microsoft Word dictionary to spellcheck string fields in each layer and outputs tables of unrecognized words. Python Toolboxes The Python-based tools are organized into ArcGIS Pro toolboxes that align with the GRI spatial data production workflow: • GRI Add Topology Rules – Adds topology rules to a GRI-compliant geodatabase. • GRI Comp Extract Tools – Collection of tools that compile and extract component maps, and load data into GRI-compliant geodatabases. • GRI Create GDB – Generates a standardized GRI-compliant geodatabase. • GRI Create HMXZ – Creates placeholder ancillary PDF documents. • GRI Feature Query – Produces a .csv report of feature counts from a GRI-compliant geodatabase. • GRI Finalization Tools – Collection of tools that finalizes ArcGIS Pro projects, add map publisher domains, generate and parse metadata, and package data for IRMA upload. • GRI GDB to GPKG – Exports a GRI-compliant geodatabase to a GeoPackage. • GRI GDB Validator – Calculates ObjectIDs and FUIDs, resets spatial extents and indexes, validates fields and aliases, and performs table checks against the GRI data model. • GRI QC Tools – Collection of tools that conduct consistency and proximity checks in accordance with the GRI QC protocol. • GRI Search and Replace KMZ – Updates KMZ files with IRMA data store paths for README files, metadata, and ancillary documents. • GRI Sensitive Tools – Collection of tools that extract sensitive data from GRI compliant geodatabases and generates corresponding sensitive geodatabases and sensitive ArcGIS Pro maps. • GRI Table Tools – Collection of tools that create GRI-compliant standalone tables, validate table values, and populate feature class fields from table values. • GRI Symbology Tools – Collection of tools that populate feature class symbology fields from a symbol spreadsheet and set feature layer symbology from a custom style and a spreadsheet containing geologic unit RGB values. • GRI QGIS Tools – Collection of scripts that update a QGIS project containing a geopackage to closely match the look of GRI data in ArcGIS Pro.
