This document is the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, Union County, New Jersey. The NHL nomination for Baltusrol Golf Club documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 4 as arguably the most important and influential design of Albert W. Tillinghast, one of the most celebrated golf course architects of the 1920s, which became known as the Golden Age of golf course architecture. Tillinghast was one of the first American golf architects to integrate the golf course into nature and one of the primary developers of the strategic as opposed to the penal golf course. The period of national significance is 1918-1936.
