This document is the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz in Keene, Kern County, California. The NHL nomination for the Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz documents its national significance under NHL Criteria # 1 and 2 for its association with the United Farm Workers of America (UFW) and Césario Estrada Chávez (César Chávez). Beginning in the 1970s, La Paz, the national headquarters for the UFW, was at the forefront of the American farmworker movement. La Paz became a symbol of the movement’s most significant achievements and its expanding horizons.
