SOP #06: Line-Point Intercept Procedures, Version 2.0. Vegetation Monitoring Procedure for the Southern Plains Grassland Protocol
Owen M and Arulanantham A. 2022. SOP #06: Line-Point Intercept Procedures, Version 2.0. Vegetation Monitoring Procedure for the Southern Plains Grassland Protocol. Southern Plains Network, National Park Service
This Standard Operating Procedure explains the methods necessary to sample vegetation along a transect line and is adapted from the 2003 USDI-National Park Service Fire Monitoring Handbook. The first 30m of the transect are sampled at 30cm increments, using the point-intercept method. Field sampling should not occur until the crew has set up and photographed the transect line. Procedures are done in this order to avoid trampling vegetation along the transect before plot photography and to keep crew members out of plot photos. This version was implemented during the 2022 field season.
