Results for this report highlight the environmental outcomes of an invasive species management project administered by Student Conservation Association (SCA) AmeriCorps members at Assateague Island National Seashore off the coast of Maryland. Results reveal that ecosystem management techniques performed by the SCA AmeriCorps members did reduce the prevalence of the target invasive species (arthraxon hispidus) within the treatment areas, when compared to the control areas, especially in the short-term observation period. Also, beneficial species prevalence increased in treatment areas, most notably again in the short-term evaluation period when compared to control areas for the same time period. This demonstrates that the activities implemented by AmeriCorps members are having positive outcomes on the landscape by reducing the prevalence of the targeted invasive species for up to a year following treatment and by maintaining the prevalence of beneficial species across the landscape.
