Brief article about a hike in 1998 to see a national champion saguaro. The former champion had died, and a search had been conducted to pick a replacement. Six made the cut: two in Pima County, three in Maricopa County and one in Pinal County. All were to be listed in the 1998 National Register of Big Trees. The saguaro highlighted with description and photo was estimated at 200 years old, 40 feet in height and with 50 arms.
