This document is the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for Eyre Hall near Cheriton in Northampton County, Virginia. The NHL nomination for Eyre Hall documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 4 as a rare example of a vernacular, Chesapeake architectural ensemble of the colonial and early Federal period. The main house was constructed in the mid-eighteenth century and expanded in the early nineteenth century. Eyre Hall presents an extremely rare combination of historic building fabric in the house, three historic outbuildings, a large garden, a family cemetery, and a largely-intact eighteenth-century landscape. The period of national significance is circa 1759 - circa 1818.
