Two species of giant cacti, Carnegiea gigantea (saguaro) and Pachycereus pringlei (cardon) are characteristic of the Sonoran Desert, a region situated in the southwest corner of the US and in the north-west corner of Mexico. These two species only grow within the Sonoran Desert or a few miles outside its boundaries. Descriptions of size, structure, conditions necessary for growth, survival.
