Rodriguez I. SAPU Spatial Documentation of the Church and Convento at Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument Abo unit.. 2025. National Park Service
In May 2025, a collaborative team from the National Park Service (NPS) and the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Uncrewed Systems Office (NUSO) conducted a spatial documentation project at Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument in New Mexico. The team, including Archeologist Iraida Rodriguez and other specialists from NPS, NUSO, and SAPU, focused on collecting remote sensing data of the Abó Unit’s Spanish Mission Church and Convento—two large, interconnected masonry ruins. Using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), aerial LiDAR, and unmanned aerial system (UAS) photogrammetry, they created a high-resolution 3D model to assess the structures’ integrity and support the Historic Structure Report.
