The arundo wasp, Tetramesa romana, is a a biological control agent of Arundo donax which is an invasive weed in the Rio Grande Basin including Big Bend National Park. In 2017-18, arundo wasps released in stands of A. donax along the Rio Grande. In 2025, 8 years after initial releases, wasp populations have increased substantially and dispersed 76 km. downstream. These levels are associated with increased light penetration of the A. donax canopy and increased density of the native riparian veg
