This document is the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for the Aubrey Watzek House in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon. The NHL nomination for the Aubrey Watzek House documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 4. Designed by John Yeon, the Watzek House helped redefine American residential design, and Yeon played a groundbreaking role in creating a distinctively American version of Modernism. In addition to broadening the reach of Modernism in the United States, the Watzek House's design was critical to establishing a regional approach to architecture that became known as the Northwest Style. The period of national significance is 1937.
