Parks throughout the Southeast include a wide variety of natural communities in need of ecological restoration and management, yet they are faced with diminishing capacity to perform this work. Grassland communities in particular have declined dramatically, even within protected conservation lands such as national parks. Today, more than 90 percent of the estimated 110+ million acres of Southeastern grasslands that existed at the time of European settlement have been lost, with some types experiencing declines approaching 100 percent. The following Natural Resources were evaluated with the indicators of Resource Condition Assessed: 1) Plant Community Composition: Conservation Status (State Listed or T&E Species; Ecological Attributes (soil preference, moisture, physiognomy); Coefficient of Conservatism/Floristic Quality Index score; Global/Subnational Rank. 2) Plant Community Distribution: Current Distribution; Distribution within park; Ecological Association Conservation Status Rank. 3) Plant Community Restoration: Availability in Native Plant Materials.
