GRYN Amphibians and Wetlands Monitoring - ArcGIS Online feature service for geospatial and tabular data
NPS Natural Resource Inventory and Monitoring Division. 2025. GRYN Amphibians and Wetlands Monitoring - ArcGIS Online feature service for geospatial and tabular data. National Park Service
Authoritative data for long term monitoring of amphibians and associated wetland habitat in Grand Teton and Yelllowstone national parks. Three feature layers and three related data tables hold corresponding geospatial and attribute/parameter data for a long term program to monitor amphibians and wetlands in Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks. The monitoring catchments are relatively small (~200 hectare) surface water drainage areas that serve as the framework for sampling the population of suitable amphibian breeding habitat. Within each selected catchment, the monitoring site point features represent locations near individual wetland features, or a set of connected wetland features, such as ponds with connecting channels in a meadow. Survey personnel visit selected monitoring sites annually. For sites with surface water present, two independent surveys are conducted for the site in order to record the presence or absence of amphibian eggs, larvae, tadpoles/metamorphs, and adults. Weather conditions and wetland site habitat characteristics are documented for visits with surveys. Each amphibian species and their observed life stage(s) (if any) are recorded. Wetland site and amphibian subject digital images are stored in a separate feature service. Areal wetland features are represented with points rather than polygons in this feature service because wetland areas respond dynamically to water availability each year and seasonally within each year. Annual surveys for amphibian presence and breeding started in 2006 following the monitoring protocol available here: https://www.nps.gov/im/gryn/amphibians.htm https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2194571 Flattened data are available in associated data packages.
