Arlington House, The Robert E. Lee Memorial, North Slave Quarters, Historic Structure Report Part 3 and Preservation Maintenance Plan 1985-2021

Historic Preservation Training Center. 2024. Arlington House, The Robert E. Lee Memorial, North Slave Quarters, Historic Structure Report Part 3 and Preservation Maintenance Plan 1985-2021. Historic Structure Management Plan. National Park Service. Washington, DC

The National Park Service (NPS) Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) was engaged by George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) to prepare a Historic Structure Report (HSR) Part 3 and Preservation Maintenance Plan (PMP) for the North Slave Quarters, Arlington House, The Robert E. Lee Memorial grounds. Part 3 of a Historic Structure Report is also known as Supplemental Record of Work Performed. It documents planning studies, technical studies, and other investigatory work that was not part the original historic structure report scope. It also records physical work performed on the building. Part 3 is typically added later to update the report, as most historic structure reports are issued prior to implementation of recommended treatments. The intention of this Preservation Maintenance Plan is to provide guidelines and tools to predict, initiate, and execute scheduled inspections, regular maintenance activities, and cyclical preservation activities to ensure the longevity and integrity of historic resources. It is meant to organize related work into a “written set of procedures to help eliminate duplication, make it easier to coordinate work effort, and create a system for prioritizing maintenance tasks that consider the most vulnerable and character-defining elements.”
