Abstract: This management-oriented presentation that offers insight 2025 computer science work in developing NPS-ActiveSpace: A Python implementation of observer-based audibility modelling methods version 3.0.0. Development was focused on the following research questions: Can we model how far a person can hear? Can we use such a model to predict useful metrics about noise impacts? How much can we rely on such a model? The first question is answered by reviewing the concept of active space. The second question is answered by exposing a novel comparison of important management indicators derived (1) via the analysis of acoustic records and also (2) via geographic mensuration. The third question is approached in a case study format, resulting in guidelines for producing reliable results. This last section highlights newly developed features of NPS-ActiveSpace as included in the upcoming version 3.0.0 release.
