The Laguna Madre provides critical habitat for fish, shellfish, and sea turtle species. Changes in water temperature regimes can stress marine organisms, disrupt breeding cycles, and alter ecosystem dynamics. Therefore, understanding temperature extremes and trends over time can improve identification of potential risks to the ecosystem. We used a percentile-based approach to identify days with extreme average temperatures and assess how trends in extreme day frequency, duration, and intensity changed over time. We also tested for an overall trend in water temperature by analyzing weekly means.
