Parking lot expansion at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum required removal of over one hundred saguaros along with many other desert plants such as prickly pear, ocotillo, cholla. Six saguaros were "felled", but the rest saved for transplantation elsewhere within the grounds. Of the $500,000 cost of the parking lot project, about $100,000 is going to plant-salvage contractors.
