Coastal Science & Engineering. 2025. 2022 Beach Nourishment Projects Avon and Buxton Dare County, NC Year 2 Post-Project Monitoring Report. National Park Service. Coastal Science & Engineering

A pair of nourishment projects at Avon and Buxton in the summer of 2022 placed a total of 2,200,000 cy along 28,700 ft of beach. Along Avon, 1 million cy were placed along 13,200 ft, while along Buxton, 1.2 million cy were placed along 15,500 ft. Because of the proximity between the placement sites, they were both completed in a single deployment by the same contractor working under the same agreement with Dare County. This report documents changes at both sites over the course of the second year following project completion. The changes reported herein are determined by a series of quarterly and annual surveys described in the post-project monitoring and mitigation plan submitted as part of the permit applications for each location. This plan was determined through coordination between Dare County and CSE based on guidance from NPS, USFWS, and CAMA personnel.
