This document is the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for Wrigley Field in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. The NHL nomination for Wrigley Field was written in 1987 at which time it was determined eligible for designation by the Secretary of the Interior. Wrigley Field is nationally significant under NHL Criterion 1 as the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916, on Chicago’s near North Side. It is one of major league baseball’s most venerable structures, the oldest extant National League ball park, and also highly significant in the history of professional football, as the longtime playing field for the Chicago Bears.
