This historic resource study was prepared to supplement and update the historic resource study for the New River Gorge National River developed in 1996 by Harlan Unrau. The overriding goals of this HRD are to a) assess and update NERI's historic contexts; 2) evaluate the significance of its historic resources; 3) produce a small scale cultural resources base map that clearly displays locations of NERI's significant cultural resources; and 4) provide historic preservation planning information in support of the park's General Management Plan.
