This report is an architectural assessment on the condition of coke ovens and concrete silos ruins in the New River Gorge National River. Significant historic archaeological resources have been identified in the New River Gorge National River related to late nineteenth and mid-twentieth century coal mining in the area. These include thousands of coke ovens and several concrete silos which were used to store coal and sand in proximity to the former C&O railroad. Many of these resources have collapsed or deteriorated to a point where they now pose a danger to Park visitors and employees.
