Purpose of this study was to identify changes in the plant species composition in the Tucson Mountains in the 20th century. Within the desert scrub and desert-grassland communities of the Tucson Mountains, the author found, over a 3-year period, 605 taxa, representing 331 genera and 80 families. Data was gathered by walking the area, supplemented by examination of herbarium records. Historic records show 27 species known from the first half of the century but not found since despite increased efforts. Many of these are winter annuals. This is the first comprehensive vascular plant checklist for the Tucson Mountains.
