Newspaper article describing conflicting opinions on survivability of saguaros after transplantation. There is little data on how transplanted saguaros do in the long-term, but root systems are often reduced significantly which affects viability. Transplanted saguaros are often planted much deeper in the ground than they would be at their initial site. This helps stabilize the saguaro to prevent being blown down, but it also buries delicate root structures that need to be nearer the surface. Scientific study of transplanted saguaros is needed.
