Fire effects monitoring data collected at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (PIRO) in Munising, MI. The data were collected during summer field seasons by the fire effects monitoring crews from 2024 to present. Photographs are taken from the plot center facing north to document change. Data are collected using standard vegetation sampling methods including point intercept, fixed and variable radius plot and 1m frequency squares. Collected data include: tree density and basal area by species and DBH; saplings, seedling & woody stem densities (fixed radius plots), and understory plant percent cover and frequency using point intercept transects and 1m frequency squares.
