This two volume Historic Resource Study documents the history and historic resources of Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. Prepared by North Wind Resource Consulting, LLC for the National Park Service, the study provides historical contexts, identifies and evaluates above ground park resources over 25 years old, updates the status of properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and provides management recommendations to support National Register documentation, interpretation, planning, and cultural resource stewardship. The study excludes subsurface archaeological resources and resources associated with Indigenous populations from full evaluation, although it includes a brief Indigenous history context to frame the significance of Cumberland Gap as a transportation corridor.
