The effects of population growth in Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada on wildlife and native plants has served as impetus for local government crafting comprehensive conservation plans. In Pima County, AZ, a coalition of developers, Realtors, ranchers and environmentalists drew up a blueprint called the Sonoran Desert conservation Plan that would protect a total of 55 threatened species-while leaving room for housing development in nonsensitive desert regions.
