Species Distribution Modeling and Condition Assessment for Culturally Significant Plant Species

This project used existing vegetation and soils data to develop species distribution models for the highest priority tribally-collected plants species (70% of project workload) combined with field assessments (30% of project workload) to assess accuracy of the modeling and to determine current condition of existing plant populations. Species evaluated were chosen based on: 1) prior formal tribal requests 2) current knowledge about tribal species of interest, 3) quality of information in current data sets, and, 4) species/populations likely to have been affected by recent high severity fires. The project produced an unpublished report and resource brief. The results will assist the park in defining appropriate adaptation and management actions that allow for the development of sustainable collection limits for high priority, tribally-important, plant species.
