This Historic Structure Report is a study of Building #313, a Historic Comfort Station in Arlington National Cemetery (ANC), land that was once part of the Custis family’s Arlington Estate. The cemetery encompasses 639 acres in Arlington County, Virginia, just west of the Potomac River and Lady Bird Johnson Park (formerly Columbia Island) and connected to Washington, DC, by the Arlington Memorial Bridge. The comfort station is part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway, a scenic road and park which includes 7,749.64 acres and extends more than 25 miles from Great Falls Park to the northwest of ANC to Mount Vernon to the south. The Historic Structure Report investigates the development and use of the comfort station, documents its current condition, and makes recommendations for treatment.
