Chemical analyses of thermal and nonthermal springs in Lassen Volcanic National Park and vicinity, California
Thompson JM. 1983. Chemical analyses of thermal and nonthermal springs in Lassen Volcanic National Park and vicinity, California. U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Open-File Report. 83-0311
The thermal waters of Lassen Volcanic National Park were studied and most were found to be acidic, low-Cl hot springs which are characteristic of vapor-dominated hydrothermal systems. The thermal waters found at Drakesbad and Little Hot Springs Valley are found to be neutral pH and low-Cl. Growler Hot Springs and Morgan Hot Springs are rich in chloride. Temperatures were measured for each water source and using general field data it was found that water probably originates in Lassen Park and flows south to Morgan Hot Springs.
