Chromian spinels indicate a heterogeneous source region for primitive lavas in the Lassen area of the Cascades

Clynne MA and Bullen TD. 1990. Chromian spinels indicate a heterogeneous source region for primitive lavas in the Lassen area of the Cascades. Eos, Transactions. 71:1613

The origins of calcalkaline basalt (CAB) from low-K, high-alumina olivine tholeiite (LKOT) were investigated. Both CAB and LKOT were found to result from fundamentally different magmatic types as the model could not predict the evolution of one basalt to the other. Both of these basalts are young primitive basalts found in the Lassen region.
