After a discussion of the sediment transport theory, the author describes two examinations of sediments from the Hawkins-Logsdon River of Mammoth Cave in Mammoth Cave National Park. The first study will trap sediments from the flow to determine what sediments are being actively transported by the river. The second study comes from examining sediments which have been deposited in the cave. This information can then be used to verify, modify, or refute the theory which predicts transport rates and the grain size distributions of deposits. Methodology is described.
