Between 1965 and 1969 an extensive study was conducted to determine the community structure of giant sequoia groves and the limiting factors of the sequoia ecosystems which have led to its disjunct distribution. The community is divided into and discussed in three sections: canopy, understory shrubs and trees, and ground cover. The study was conducted in the Giant Forest area and includes references and comparisons to sequoia groves found in other parts of California.
