A description of the study area and the methods used is followed by analyses of cloud cover, temperature relations, relative humidity, vapor pressure deficit, precipitation, and soil moisture balance. The study ran from January 1, 1947, to December 31, 1950, with hourly readings from stations at 1460 feet, 3850 feet, 5000 feet, and 6300 feet in elevation. Cloud cover and precipitation increased with elevation, and temperature decreased. Soil moisture balance increased and evapo-transpiration decreased with increase in altitude. Use of climate alone for defining species distribution involves more factors than those analyzed in the study.
