A study of foaling rates of two populations of feral horses on Assateague Island -- one at Assateague Island National Seashore, on the northern end of the island, and the other at Chincoteague National Wildlife refuge, at the southern end. Fetal loss rates were estimated by comparing fall pregnancy rates with foaling rates during the following spring and summer. Discusses causes of differential foaling rates.
