A study of coral reefs and coral-reef destruction conducted during 1973 in American Samoa, and of the recolonization of a selectively denuded coral reef. Five years before this present study, a portion of the reef was denuded of many of its scleractinian corals; however recolonizaton by natural processes has occurred since then and is proceeding rapidly.
