Coral reef troubles in American Samoa
Craig P, Green AL, Saucerman S. 1995. Coral reef troubles in American Samoa. South Pacific Commission Fisheries Newsletter. 72:33-34
A summary regarding the human disturbances affecting the condition of the coral reefs in American Samoa. These disturbances include poor urban and agricultural land use practices, ethrophication, pollution and overfishing. There is a need for a planning workshop to determine management strategies suitable for a small island staff, quantitative assessments of reef health, determination of causes of reef fishery declines, reduction of non-point sources of sedimentation and eutrophication, increase in public awareness of reef value and better enforcement of existing regulations.
