Study of food habits of coyote was undertaken between 1935 and 1937 as a result of the Park Service being requested to "control" bobcats and coyotes because of their possible predation of nearby wildfowl of the Tule Lake Wildfowl Refuge. One hundred and eighty-six scats were collected and analyzed. Table 1: Record of material collected and analyzed (including dates). Table 2: Food items identified. No evidence was found that it is necessary or advisable to control coyotes on Lava Beds National Monument lands.
