Adams LG. 1988. Dall sheep survey, Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, Alaska-1987. Natural Resources Survey and Inventory Report. Alaska Region. Anchorage, AK

A Dall sheep population survey was conducted by helicopter in a portion of Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve from 4 to 12 July 1987. Four counting units (units 1, 2, 5, and 27) were surveyed. A total of 1,228 sheep were counted, of which 35% were rams. The results of this survey were compared with those of a similar one done in 1982, and some differences in the composition of sheep were noted. The overall lamb:ewe ratio was higher in 1987 than in 1982, while the yearling:ewe ratio was similar.
