Deciduous Forest Climaxes

Braun EL. 1938. Deciduous Forest Climaxes. Ecology. 19(4):515 - 542

The author regarded the climax forests of Eastern North America as mixed mesophytic, and included various mixes of about fifteen species. Compositions of forests within the larger designation -- oak-hickory, beech-maples, cove hardwoods, etc. -- are dependent upon factors such as rainfall, elevation, and soils.
