The present report is primarily concerned with the biological aspects of the elk herd and their management implications. The objectives of the present study were: 1) to determine year-around distribution, habitat use and food habits of the elk and mule deer; 2) to determine population dynamics of the species; 3) to document ecological relationships between the two species; 4) to determine condition and trends of year-around habitats as a result of the expected increase in the elk population; 5) to document departures of vegetation from natural succession; and 6) to formulate objectives and criteria for management of these animals. The present report is primarily concerned with the biological aspects of the elk herd and their management implications.
