Winter dens of radiotelemetry collared bears were examined after the bears had emerged. Sites and surrounding vegetation were studied. The availability of denning habitat and dens was calculated and tabulated. Entering and emerging dates were noted, and weather had an obvious effect on these dates. Preferred sites were high aboveground in tree cavities. Ground dens were usually in roots of windthrown trees. A recommendation to park management was the preservation of tree den sites.
