Population characteristics and behavioral aspects of woodchucks in random quadrats in Cades Cove were tabulated and charted. Observations were made twice weekly between July 7, 1977, and July 11, 1978. The population varied between 814 and 1351, and related to land use and cover, Foraging was the predominant activity, but behaviors were influenced by reproductive, environmental, and social factors.
