Report on the resources of Kaloko fishpond, in Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park, and recommendations for monitoring these resources. To protect and enhance both the cultural and biological value of Kaloko fishpond, the National Park Service has decided to restore the pond as a traditionally functioning Hawaiian fishpond. Restoration of the fishpond seawall and makaha (inlet/outlet structure or sluice gate) will result in changes to the current condition of the fishpond, potentially altering the habitat suitability of the pond for certain species. The purpose of this project was to identify the critical resources of Kaloko fishpond and recommend a strategy to monitor these resources before, during, and after the re-establishment of the sluice-gate. Describes riparian vegetation, birds, fish, invertebrates, physical and chemical characteristics of the pond. Includes a list of fish species and a list of invertebrate species found in the pond.
