Distribution and abundance of alien and native plant species in Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park

A 1992-93 survey of vegetation in Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park. Of 116 vascular plant species found, 69% were alien, 3% were Polynesian introductions, 23% were indigenous and 4% were endemic. Of 56 new species identified since the last survey in 1990, 46 were alien. The percentage cover of 11 invasive alien plant species is reported; the most common are Ekoa (Leucaena leucocephala), Klu (Acacia farnesiana) and Fountain grass (Pennisetum setaceum). Candidate endangered native species include Ko'oko'olau (Bidens micrantha subsp. ctenophylla) and Maiapilo (Canparis sandwichiana).
