Summary of Everglades wading birds in connection with major changes being accomplished in the water management of Water Conservation Areas adjacent to Everglades National Park, south Florida. Monthly fixed-wing Systematic Reconnaissance Flights (SRF) provide data on distribution and abundance of the birds, along with relationships to modified water patterns. Flooded conditions in 1995 led to significantly lower numbers of wading birds observed during this year, while 'wet' conditions the following two years saw large increases. Most of the species surveyed show great population reductions over the past 11 years. With original color prints showing the survey plane and birds flying or feeding, species accounts, abundance tables. Appendices: transect latitudes; many maps, diagrams, and graphs showing densities and estimated abundance of wading birds, water level data.
