During the summer and fall of 1974 through 1979, a series of aerial surveys were conducted on major salmon spawning streams in Katmai to determine brown bear distribution. This report summarizes the information obtained by these surveys regarding brown bear densities and distribution, as well as the time periods that bears use the river drainages, with comments on suitability and ease of viewing bears. Information is presented stream-by-stream for Margot Creek, Research Bay Creek, Savonoski River, Hardscrabble Creek, American Creek, Idavain Creek, Brooks River, Contact Creek, Nanuktuk Creek, and Moraine and Funnel creeks. Descriptions of each stream are included, as are summaries of salmon activity.
